We begin with Exhibit #1: An email sent to me after I dared publish facts.

Threat Level: Keyboard Warrior

Sender: "Peter Larsson"

Subject: A legal threat over a Ripoff Report post (not available from the EU – use a VPN if you wish to read it).

Summary: I published a factual report on a U.S.-based platform protected by the First Amendment — and in response, I received this gem:

"You have made public statements containing false information and personal data that may defame another individual."
"We are in possession of your personal and contact information."
"Failure to comply will result in us filing a formal complaint."

Let's translate that:

"You posted something we don't like, so we're trying to scare you into silence — without specifying what's false, what's defamatory, or what law we think you broke."

A vague threat, zero legal foundation, and the usual tactic: try to intimidate with talk of "authorities" and "escalation" — as if public criticism and falling victim of a scam is a criminal offense in the United States.

If this is the caliber of "trusted providers" and site admins, imagine the legal advice their users are getting.

Verdict:

When facts hurt, some people reach for the keyboard and type threats instead of counterarguments.

A shining example of how not to handle criticism — and a perfect debut for the Stupidity section.

Email text:

It has come to our attention that you have made public statements containing false information and personal data that may defame another individual.
